Recruiting is starting to pick up across college football as players will soon begin taking their official visits this spring and summer, but some players are going ahead and announcing their decisions before those start to pick up. The South Carolina Gamecocks are one of the latest to earn one of these commitments.
Jerry Meyer III, a quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class, has announced his commitment to the Gamecocks. South Carolina extended an offer to Meyer back in January of this year and now Meyer is set to become a Gamecock after his high school career.

Meyer is rated as a three star prospect, the 973rd-best player in the country, the 56th-best quarterback in the class and the 128th-best player in the state of Texas, according to 247 sports composite rankings. He was previously committed to TCU but decommitted from the Horned Frogs shortly after he received an offer from South Carolina.
In 2024, Meyer threw for 3,308 yards, 29 TDs, and 6 INTs and was named Texas District 11-6A Offensive Newcomer of the Year.
Meyer becomes the fourth player to join South Carolina's 2027 recruiting class. Aamaury Fountain, Jernard Albright and Jaiden Kelly-Murray are the other two players who were committed prior to Meyer.
Fountain is rated as one of the top cornerbacks in the class and has been committed to the Gamecocks since January of this year. Kelly-Murray is one of the top wide receivers in the state of South Carolina in this cycle, and committed to South Carolina in March.
Albright is the player who has been committed to the Gamecocks the longest in this class. He announced his decision during December of last year and has remained committed ever since. He is rated as a top-20 player in the state of Georgia.
Things will really start to heat up for the Gamecocks on the trail as players start getting on campus and narrowing down their decisions.
Shane Beamer and his staff haven't been known to land one of the nation's top classes, but they are known for having a few tricks up their sleeves and landing a couple of the nation's top players every single cycle. We will see what the 2027 class has in store for them this year.
