Gamecocks land a commitment from transfer portal WR Gage Larvadain

South Carolina's Football program has secured a commitment from rising senior Miami-Ohio WR Gage Larvadain from Donaldsonville, LA.

Fresh off his visit to the Gamecocks, Gage announces that he will spend his last year of college eligibility with South Carolina. Joining Transfer WRs Ahmari Huggins-Bruce and Jared Brown, the Gamecocks have solidified their receiving corps. Notably, they have two former Under Armour All-Americans in rising sophomores Nyck Harbor, the No.1 ATH in his class, and Kelton Henderson, a four-star receiver from Lehigh Acres, FL, who spent last year on a redshirt.

Looking at Gage Larvadain's college career stats, it's evident that he brings three productive years to the Gamecocks:

  • Receptions: 138
  • Yards: 1,931
  • Average: 14.0
  • Touchdowns: 13
  • Longest Reception: 99 yards

Additionally, he has contributed as a returner:

Punts:

  • Attempts: 12
  • Yards: 76

Kickoffs:

  • Attempts: 44
  • Yards: 1,113

The Gamecocks have added significant production with this commitment, bringing in another playmaker who might fly a bit under the radar. While not considered a super splashy move by everyone in college football, it addresses Carolina's needs effectively. However, considering the team's current roster, it's evident that they lack a wide receiver with the experience and size to be a potential WR1.

Despite having smaller, playmaker receivers, none have quite reached WR1 numbers. The addition of Gage Larvadain is beneficial, but there's a possibility that the Gamecocks are not done at the wide receiver position. They might be in search of a more experienced receiver with some size to complement their existing talent. As they explore the transfer portal, the Gamecocks aim to fill this gap and elevate their receiving corps for a more well-rounded offensive attack.
