With the new year on the horizon, let's talk about an intriguing 2027 prospect and Gamecock target, Brayden Tyson, a Georgia native currently attending Brookwood High School. The high school freshman back broke out in his first-ever varsity game this past Fall, winning the Player of the Game award in the Corky Kell Dave Hunter Classic at Mercedes Benz Stadium.

He finished his freshman campaign with 642 yards on 110 carries and four touchdowns. Tyson also proved to be an asset in the passing game as a freshman, averaging 9.1 yards per reception with a lone receiving touchdown.

If the last name Tyson is familiar to you (outside of Mike Tyson), you're not crazy; you may remember the name DeAngelo Tyson, Brayden's father. DeAngelo played at Georgia under Mark Richt before playing four years in the NFL and winning a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens in 2016 (Super Bowl XLVII).

Tyson received his offer from South Carolina on May 10th and visited Columbia on September 23rd for their matchup against Mississippi State.

Skills Breakdown

Balance

Tyson is a specimen, standing in at 6-foot-1 and weighing in at 215 pounds, but what makes him special is his uncanny ability to keep his balance after contact.

The Punisher

It's not often you hear the word physical with a high school freshman running back, but Tyson is an exception to that notion. Brayden is a bruiser; he has no shame turning defenders into crash dummies on the way to a big run; however, what really stood out to me was when he lined up as a lead blocker, another rarity at the position.

Versatile

Tyson showcased the ability to run power and or stretch plays in different run-blocking schemes while also showing that he has a good pair of hands to catch the ball in space.
