Stanford building momentum in landing Providence transfer Jared Bynum

Stanford may be getting some much needed guard help

Following the conclusion of this past season it was evident that Stanford needed more playmakers on the roster.

Prior to last week's announcement that Spencer Jones was returning, the Cardinal were a team heading into next season with lackluster guard play, missing a guy who could put the team on his back, and were going to be extremely reliant on the two incoming freshmen. They were able to address the last issue with the return of Jones who was the leading scorer this past season, and now they are in a good position to bring in some guard help.

According to a report by On3's Jamie Shaw, Stanford recently hosted Providence guard Jared Bynum which Shaw said went well. He even went as far to say "there is momentum building for the Cardinal".

This is huge news for Stanford who badly need a scoring guard to compliment Jones, and someone to take the pressure off five-star Andrej Stojakovic. Bynum averaged 10 points and 4.3 assists this past season, and averaged 12.2 points and four assists the season prior.

Bynum is a former three-star recruit from the 2018 cycle out of Rockville (Md.) Georgetown Preparatory School. He started his career at Saint Joseph’s before transferring to Providence. Bynum is a graduate transfer and has immediate eligibility.

As it stands right now, Bynum ranks as the No. 47 transfer in the portal, and currently holds a crystal ball prediction in favor of Stanford. The Cardinal brought in their first transfer in program history last season in Davidson guard Michael Jones.

Adding Bynum also helps make up for the loss of Northern Arizona transfer Jalen Cone who was lured to Cal by former Stanford star Mark Madsen.
