Stanford OL Barrett Miller to transfer

The Cardinal now lose what was one of their few offensive linemen with experience

The transfer portal as we all know can give and take, but in the case of Stanford it has done a lot more taking than giving.

On Thursday, the Cardinal lost offensive lineman Barrett Miller to the transfer portal in what was quite a surprising announcement. Miller remained as one of the few linemen on the roster who had any sort of experience, throughout his four years in Palo Alto Miller appeared in 38 games and made 30 starts at both right and left guard.

If you look at the two-deep from the first week of the season against Colgate from a year ago, there are now just two players remaining across the offensive line depth chart. The portal has claimed Walter Rouse (Oklahoma), Myles Hinton (Michigan), Drake Nugent (Michigan), Jake Hornibrook (Duke), and Drake Metcalf (UCF).

Troy Taylor did put in some work in the transfer portal and brought in two Ivy-League offensive line transfers, but losing Miller likely wasn't an ideal pill to swallow. Especially after the conclusion of spring ball, and right before summer and fall camps.

While we are still learning as to how active Stanford can be in the transfer portal now that there is a staff willing to use it, one would have to assume it won't be the easiest of tasks to look for more portal talent at this time.
