Former Stanford commit Walker Lyons projected to end up at Georgia
After committing to Stanford in July, four-star tight end Walker Lyons backed off his commitment following the news that head coach David Shaw was stepping down.
In a recent interview with 247Sports, Lyons detailed which schools are in the mix, and while Stanford is still under his consideration with the new staff, programs such as Georgia, Utah, and USC have inserted themselves as well.
The Bulldogs are believed to have the edge now according to On3's Director of Recruiting, Chad Simmons, who put in a commitment prediction with a confidence of 60%.
Lyons did touch on his visit to Stanford to meet the new staff saying:
"I got to meet up with coach Taylor, but I knew him a little bit and obviously he had the Folsom ties," said Lyons. "But I did get to know him more personally and meet with him one-on-one and learn what they were going to do with the offense."
He also touched on meeting new tight ends coach Nate Byham saying:
"He played tight end in the NFL and has been coaching tight ends at Albany, so he's got some experience," said Lyons.
247Sports has Lyons ranked as the No. 148 player while On3 has him ranked as the No. 230 player in the class. Regardless of where he goes, he will not be setting foot on the field anytime soon due to the fact that he is leaving to serve his LDS mission at the end of this month, which means he will delay his enrollment until the fall of 2024.
If Stanford could add him back to their class that would be a huge get for Taylor.
