Stanford 'in a great spot' for 2024 Mater Dei QB Elijah Brown

The 2024 recruiting class saw a major domino fall this week when the unanimous No. 1 overall quarterback in the class Dylan Raiola announced that he was committing to Georgia.

This doesn't mean that every other quarterback in the country will commit, but it does mean that certain programs who were all in on Raiola now can turn their attention elsewhere. One of the programs that was making a push for the No. 1 overall recruit per 247Sports, ESPN, and Rivals was USC.

The future Big Ten program is also after a quarterback that Stanford's Troy Taylor appears to be prioritizing in Mater Dei product, Elijah Brown. The heir to Bryce Young, Brown has had one of the most successful high school careers ever sporting a 29-1 record as the starter.

The Cardinal have been tabbed as the favorites, and Brown is a recruit that can truly help turn the program around if they were to land him. In a recent report by 247Sports' National Director of Recruiting, Steve Wiltfong, the recruitment of the top quarterbacks in the country and the schools favored to land them were discussed.

When it came to Stanford, Wiltfong expressed that they were in good standing for the No. 33 overall recruit.

Considered one of the top QB destinations in college football about a decade ago, Stanford wants to get back on track under new coach Troy Taylor. As we already wrote, Stanford is in a great spot for Mater Dei product Elijah Brown heading into his official visit the first weekend of June. But Brown isn’t the only quarterback high on a potential future in Palo Alto.

Brown isn't the only quarterback that the staff is pursuing either, as Wiltfong reported they are also in a fairly good position to land the 6-foot-3 dual threat quarterback out of Tennessee, Aidan Glover.

Collierville (Tenn.) High quarterback Aidan Glover recently told 247Sports ever since he was a little kid his dream was to go to Stanford and the Cardinal are slated for his last scheduled official visit in June. He’s fresh off a trip to Northwestern this past weekend with a keen eye on Boston College, Houston and Tulane among others, but Stanford could be tough to beat here and if he makes out West before Brown commits, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him gobble up the spot.

It wouldn't be shocking if the Cardinal made a push to land both of them considering the nature of how college football works with the transfer portal. Stanford recently brought in Syracuse transfer Justin Lamson to compete with Ari Patu, Ashton Daniels, and incoming four-star Myles Jackson for the starting role, meaning it wouldn't be unfathomable if the Cardinal end up losing someone to the portal eventually.

As it stands right now, Brown would be the highest ranked recruit of the Troy Taylor era, and he could also help bring some of his Mater Dei teammates to Palo Alto. Brown is slated to be on campus for an official visit on June 2 along with a slew of other notable 2024 recruits, which could end up being a massive weekend for the Cardinal.
