Stanford Coach Tara VanDerveer Makes College Basketball History With Latest Win

On Sunday, Stanford head coach Tara VanDerveer officially cemented herself as the winningest college basketball coach ever.

The win was the 1,203rd of her career, which moved her ahead of former Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski. The win notches her career record to 1,203-267. Stanford, who was without their star player Cameron Brink ended up beating Oregon State by a score of 65-56. 

In Brink's absence, it was Kiki Iriafen that stepped up and led the way on offense. She dropped a career-high 36 points, which she paired with 12 rebounds.

Despite her amazing achievement, VanDerveer immediately talked about the success of her team after the game.

“I just love how our team battled,” VanDerveer said. “How about Kiki?!”

To honor her, following the game there was a video as a part of the postgame ceremony. In the video, notable icons such as Billie Jean King and Krzyzewski were featured, as well as former Stanford star Chiney Ogwumike. On the season, Stanford advances to 17-2 and will now hit the road to take on Arizona State and Arizona.
