NIL In-Season College Basketball Tournament Launching This Fall, Syracuse Among Teams Contacted

Orange basketball may be a part of a historic event next season.

Syracuse basketball was one of 10 teams reportedly contacted to potentially participate in a historic in-season NIL related college basketball tournament that would start during the 2024-25 campaign. This according to a report Front Office Sports

Here are the specifics of the tournament per the report: 

- Up to $2 million in name, image and likeness deals to participating teams. $1 million distributed to all teams and another $1 million to the winning team. 

- The tournament would be named "Players Era" and be played in Las Vegas. 

- Eight teams will participate this fall and 16 the following year. 

- EverWonder Studio and AND1 CEO of basketball Seth Berger will operate the event.

- EverWonder has not yet secured distribution but is in talks with both linear and streaming-based broadcasters

- Funds will be given to collectives, boosters, or other NIL entities. The coaches and teams will be able to distribute that money however they see fit, as long as the money goes to current players .

- Participating teams will receive free travel, lodging and meals during the event. 

- Teams that have been contacted to potentially participate are Alabama, Duke, FAU, Houston, Kansas, Oregon, San Diego State, St. Joe’s, Syracuse, and Virginia.
