Syracuse football has dismissed wide receiver Damien Alford from the program, according to a report from ESPN's Pete Thamel. Alford was the Orange's leading receiver during the 2023 season.

In 2023, Alford had career highs with 33 catches for 610 yards and three touchdowns. During his four years with the Orange, Alford accumulated 67 catches for 1,291 yards and seven touchdowns in 42 games.

Alford's place on the new Syracuse roster was a bit up in the air given everything that transpired this offseason. Not only was there a change in the head coach and nearly the entire coaching staff including wide receivers coach and offensive coordinator, but Syracuse brought in transfer wide receivers such as Yazeed Haynes and Jackson Meeks. The Orange also brought in multiple highly touted wide receivers in the 2024 recruiting class.

This move does mean that Syracuse takes a hit in returning, experienced wide receivers. Others who have played in the past, such as Isaiah Jones and others, have hit the transfer portal to explore other opportunities. The Orange does figure to have a more talented, versatile and deep wide receivers group than last season even with the loss of Alford.

Syracuse football begins its 2024 season this fall with a home game against Ohio.
