Denis Jaquez Out for the Season

Syracuse football loses a starting defensive lineman for the season.

Syracuse defensive lineman Denis Jaquez is out for the season, head coach Dino Babers said following the Orange's 40-7 loss at North Carolina. Babers initially said they lost someone for the year but would not say who. A few minutes later, a reporter asked about Denis Jaquez since left the game with an apparent injury, and Babers confirmed he was the player done for the season. A tough blow for the Orange defensive line.

Jaquez had 12 tackles with 1.5 sacks and one forced fumble in six games this season. The 6-4, 254 pound defensive end started all six games as a true sophomore.

This is the third Syracuse player to be lost for the season due to injury, joining tight end Oronde Gadsden and offensive lineman David Wohlabaugh.

Jaquez came to Syracuse as part of the Orange's 2022 recruiting class out of St. Augustine Prep in New Jersey. He signed with Syracuse over offers from Appalachian State, Boston College, Maryland, Northwestern, Rutgers, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. Jaquez saw action right away as a true freshman, appearing in six games during the 2022 season. He emerged as a potential starter with a strong spring and followed that up with a strong training camp to earn a starting position.
