Oronde Gadsden Named Top 100 Player in College Football by ESPN

The Syracuse football star is a valuable weapon in the Orange’s passing attack.

Syracuse star Oronde Gadsden was named one of the top 100 players in all of college football by ESPN on Tuesday. Gadsden comes in at 97th overall. Here is what ESPN had to say about Gadsden:

Is he a tight end or a wide receiver? Stop asking, Dino Babers said. Gadsden is just a football player – one who’s nearly impossible to defend. At 6-5, 220 pounds, Gadsden makes for an imposing-yet-agile target, and last year he used his impressive size and skills to rack up 61 catches for 969 yards and six touchdowns for the Orange.

His breakout 2022 season led to being named First Team All-ACC last year, Preseason First Team All-ACC entering the 2023 campaign and to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List. Gadsden became the go-to option in Syracuse’s passing attack and was utilized primarily out of the slot. His size and skill level created matchup advantages as he was too big for a defensive back and too fast for a linebacker.

The most memorable moment for Gadsden was against Purdue early in the season. With just seconds left and the Orange trailing by less than a touchdown, he caught the game winning touchdown pass on a corner route to secure a thrilling come from behind victory.

Gadsden signed with Syracuse out of American Heritage High School in Florida as part of the 2021 recruiting class. He picked the Orange over offers from Arizona State, Baylor, Boston College, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Iowa State, Kentucky, Penn State and West Virginia among many others.
