Highlights & Recap: Syracuse Blown Out at Florida State

The Orange dropped its third straight game.

The three-game gauntlet is over after Syracuse fell 41-3 to Florida State on Saturday, and Baber’s message is simple. It is time to rest and recover.

After starting out the season hot with four dominant performances that averaged 44.25 points a game. Syracuse has since then cooled off and fell flat three games in a row, only averaging eight points a game.

While there may be a laundry list of improvements for this team after their recent performance against Florida State there are two bright spots to take away.

LeQuint Allen Jr. has what it takes to play against an NFL Caliber defensive lineman as he rushed for over 100 yards.

The other is how the defense was able to stop a potential Heisman quarterback contender, Jordan Travis, in ways other teams have yet to do this season. Coming into this matchup, Florida State was perfect in the redzone scoring 20 out of 20 times until they matched up against the Syracuse defense. The man-to-man coverage Coach Long prepared was able to stop Florida State’s dynamic offense back-to-back times in the red zone.

“Our defense played with a lot of pride today,” said Dino Babers.

While the defense kept the score close for as long as they could, eventually the flood gates opened, and Florida State showed why they are ranked fourth in the country for a reason.

The Seminoles will be a serious contender for a National Championship this season with the talent they carry on both sides of the field. Koen Coleman is a player to keep an eye out for, for years to come, with his show stopping one-handed catch that not even Babers could ignore.

“He looked like a gymnast out there today,” said Babers. “God did something special when they made him (Coleman).

While Florida State rides off into the sunset of Tallahassee untouched and undefeated. It is time for Syracuse to take advantage of their upcoming week bye.

“Now we have time to recover and get everyone back healthy and finish this back half of the season just like how we started it, strong,” said Justin Barron.

Babers emphasized how he wants his players to take advantage of their one weekend out of the stadium to recharge their bodies physically and mentally by going home to see family.

When Syracuse returns it will be on the bright stage of Thursday night football at one of the most iconic stadiums in college football, Virginia Tech. Despite the tough stretch of obstacles Syracuse has faced, Babers has nothing but confidence in his team when they return to play.

“I’d be surprised if the offense and team as a whole doesn’t go back right where it started,” said Babers.

We’ll have to wait and see until Syracuse steps back on the field in Blacksburg, Virginia in twelve days.
