Syracuse football finished the 2022 season with a 7-6 record including a Pinstripe Bowl loss to Minnesota. This despite starting the season 6-0 and moving into the top 15 in national rankings. As injuries mounted, the Orange lost six of its last seven games. The subsequent offseason produced a lot of change that will make Syracuse's staff look almost entirely different in 2023.
Gone are both coordinators, Robert Anae on the offensive side (NC State) and Tony White on the defensive side (Nebraska). In Anae's place, Jason Beck was promoted from quarterbacks coach where he was credited with significant strides in Garrett Shrader's development prior to injury. Replacing White was Rocky Long, largely credited with the creation of the 3-3-5 defense.
The coordinator positions were not the only ones on staff with turnover. Syracuse lost Nick Monroe, Mike Schmidt and Chip West during the offseason. The Orange hired Travis Fisher, Steve Farmer and Darrell Perkins to fill those shoes. Nunzio Campanile was also hired as tight ends coach.
Syracuse enters the 2023 season looking to make back to back bowl games for the first time since 2013.
