LeQuint Allen Fighting Season Long Suspension by Suing Syracuse University

The Orange football running back was suspended due to a fight in December.

Major news broke Monday night that could have significant ramifications for Syracuse football. Running back LeQuint Allen is trying to overturn a suspension for the entire 2023 season by suing Syracuse University, according to a report from Syracuse.com's Emily Leiker. According to the report, the suspension is due to an on-campus fight that took place on December 11th at an apartment on south campus. Also according to the report, Allen appealed the suspension, both formally and informally, before filing the lawsuit. The judge in the case issued a temporary pause on the suspension until a July 12th court date.

The report, citing an affidavit, states Allen punched someone in retaliation after he was punched twice in the face. Allen was reportedly alerted by a teammate who had been injured outside a party at the Village Apartments. A man then yelled at Allen and his teammate when they returned, accusing them of hitting a woman. That man was the one who allegedly hit Allen twice. According to Syracuse Police, Allen was charged with third degree assault for the incident. The case was settled with what is called an adjournment in contemplation of dismissal. That allows the case to be removed from his record if he has no further incidents over the subsequent six months.

The incident, according to Allen in the lawsuit, did not come up again until February when he was charged with violating school policy.

Allen emerged last season as the heir apparent to Sean Tucker. He had a stellar Pinstripe Bowl and appeared ready to take the reins as the starting running back this spring. If the suspension holds, it will take a significant weapon away from the Orange offense.
