Syracuse Glad to Have LeQuint Allen Back, Will Rotate Backs This Season

The Orange's starting running back returned to practice this week.

Syracuse, N.Y. - The rising standout running back made his highly anticipated return back to the football field.

LeQuint Allen returns back to practice for the first time since May 15th. Allen was previously suspended at the end of the fall semester for a fight in December of 2021 that involved another Syracuse student.

The suspension would have kept Allen off the field for this upcoming 2023 season but was dropped after Allen filed and settled a lawsuit against the University to have his suspension reversed.

Allen is projected to play a crucial role in the backfield after he made the most out of his opportunities last season. In his first year, he averaged 6.6 yards per carry, and finished with 274 yards rushing on the season. As the number two running back for the team, he caught 17 passes for 117 yards and had a rushing, receiving and passing touchdown. That includes starting and impressing in the Pinstripe Bowl.

“Everyone needs grace and forgiveness, where would we be without it,” head coach Dino Babers said. “He is the type of guy that would protect your family and he is a good guy that we are glad he is a part of our team.”

The team welcomed Allen back with open arms as they went right back to work. The good news for Allen is that he will not be the only guy getting touches this season. That will ease his workload to some degree.

“It is not going to be so much like it was last year with one guy all the dog on time," Babers said. "There’s going to be more playing than there has been in the last two years with Sean Tucker here."

Tucker was one of the top players in the nation during his career as he shattered Syracuse’s single season rushing record with 1,496 yards in 2021. After years of leading the backfield, Syracuse is looking to add more of a running back committee with options.

While Allen is a clear favorite based off his campaign last season, stay on the lookout for Juwaun Price and Ike Daniels to make an impact. Price has division one playing experience and has been in the program for more than a year. Daniels is a very talented freshman who has impressed so far during camp.
