Syracuse Offense Looking For Versatility in 2023

The Orange believes it will have more ways to score under new offensive coordinator Jason Beck.

Syracuse, N.Y. - As the anticipation builds for the 2023 football season, there is a lot to look forward to, especially when an offense is filled with playmakers. With several returning starters, there is a significant change in coaching the offense. Jason Beck is in as offensive coordinator and Robert Anae is out.

Before Coach Beck will officially coach his first game as an offensive coordinator, he has already impacted the belief in the offensive position groups that not only are they going to score, but they have multiple ways to score.

“I view that as you have to try and stop one of us, but if you stop one of us, in my eyes, there are at least a few other guys in each position that can go out there and do the same thing,” said Isaiah Jones. “We give the guys (defense) a different look to the point that we are always rolling and moving with whoever we got.”

Jones has been waiting for his moment to return to the field since game three of last year when he suffered a season-ending injury. After having things put into perspective, Jones has been working harder every day to not only come back, but to be even better than where he left off last season.

If those words become true, keep your eyes on the wide receiver to have a breakout campaign. However, the beauty of the offensive mindset that Beck is trying to create is having multiple weapons to keep defenses off balance.

Another player to watch is Maximilian Mang, who has appeared in every game the last three seasons and is poised to take over as the a full time starter. Mang played a vital role as a lead blocker for Sean Tucker last year and is gearing up to repeat that same role for LeQuint Allen and Juwaun Price this season.

“It has really helped with now having Coach Beck take the same offensive style to the next level,” said Mang. “We have an all-around package that means we can do everything with every person we have.”

The offense will have over one more week to prepare for their first opponent Colgate, who struggled defensively last year, giving up an average of around 30 points per game.
