Justin Lamson Commits to Stanford

In this story:
Former Syracuse quarterback Justin Lamson has committed to Stanford as his transfer destination, he announced on Saturday. Lamson entered the portal at the end of April and found a new home in about two weeks. Originally from California, Lamson will now be much closer to home. The Orange recently added South Carolina transfer quarterback Braden Davis to its roster.
Lamson was competing with Carlos Del Rio-Wilson for the backup spot behind incumbent starter Garrett Shrader. Both Lamson and Del Rio-Wilson had strong moments during the spring game, and head coach Dino Babers seemed to indicate both were even. We do not know if this is related to his spot on the depth chart or not, but a lot of times playing time is a key factor.
Lamson came to Syracuse as part of the Orange's 2021 season. He redshirted in 2021, had a breakout spring in 2022 before suffering an injury that cost him the entire season. Syracuse snagged Carlos Del Rio-Wilson in the portal subsequently in order to provide depth behind Shrader last season. Del Rio-Wilson ended up starting a game when Shrader missed time due to injury.
A star at Oak Ridge High in California, Lamson signed with Syracuse over offers from Boise State, Louisville, Wyoming and several others. Lamson will have three years of eligibility remaining unless he is granted a medical redshirt for 2022, in which case he would have four.

EXPERIENCE Mike McAllister has been covering Syracuse basketball, football and recruiting for more than a decade. Mike's career started with his own free blog as a way to vent following sporting events. After running Nation of Orange for several months, a position with the Syracuse site on the Scout network became available.
