COLLEGE STATION - The recent trend around the NCAA is for players to save their eligibility by medically redshirting a season. Last season, Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant sat following the third game of the year and was able to transfer to Missouri. This season, Houston's D'Eriq King is following a similar path.

One now can throw a Texas A&M member to the list, who believes it will be smarter for him to sit rather than play the remainder of the season.

Aggies wide receiver and punt returner Roshauud Paul will be medically redshirted for the remainder of the 2019 season. Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher made the announcement Monday, giving him two more years of eligibility.

Although the NCAA's cut off is at four games, Paul would likely get an exception due to his status. He did not play against Arkansas, making him still eligible to transfer.

Paul predominately saw action on special teams, including punt returns. This past week against Arkansas, freshman Ainais Smith recovered all of the team's punts. He had four returns for 107 yards in the win against Lamar and caught one pass for 11 yards in the opener versus Texas State heading into Sunday's action.

Although expected, Fisher did not say with Paul would be returning to the program or using the redshirt to transfer after the year. A junior, the wide receiver is close to graduating and could take his talents to another school as he works to gain his Master's degree.

Last season, Paul returned 24 punts for 209 yards. He would finish the season with six catches for 70 yards.
