While the race to Atlanta will come through games in the Southeastern Conference, Texas A&M must start its season off on the right note. Attention can't turn to matchups against Auburn and Arkansas until games against New Mexico and Miami are complete.

The Southeastern Conference announced kickoff times for A&M's out-of-conference schedule. The Aggies will begin the 2023 season with a 6 p.m. kickoff against New Mexico on ESPN before hitting the road for a 2:30 p.m. showdown with Miami in Week 2 on ABC. Rounding out the season-opening non-conference slate, the Aggies will take on Louisiana Monore at 3 p.m. on SEC Network.

The Aggies will also have an 11 a.m. kick against Abilene Christian on Saturday, November 18. The game will be televised on ESPN+/SEC Network+.

All eyes seem to be fixated on Week 2's matchup at Hard Rock Stadium against the Hurricanes. Both programs underachieved despite productive offseasons and sky-high expectations entering the 2022 season. A&M won the first home-and-home series last season at Kyle Field, 17-9. The defense held Hurricanes quarterback Tyler Van Dyke to 217 passing yards and zero touchdowns.

On the opposing side, Max Johnson was named A&M's starter following a woeful Week 2 loss to Appalachian State. He finished 10-of-20 passing for 140 yards and a score.

Quarterback concerns were one of several lingering issues for the Aggies en route to a 5-7 season last fall. Injuries and instability on the offensive line did little to negate insufficient play at the game's most crucial position. The same could be said with inept play calling from Fisher.

A&M finished 101st in scoring (22.8 points per game) and 93rd in total yards (361.2 yards per game). A new cultural feel seems to be in motion with the arrival of first-year offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino and the emergence of rising sophomore Conner Weigman. The Aggies also returned several veterans, including receiver Ainias Smith and offensive lineman Layden Robinson.

A victory against the ACC opponent would mark the fifth win over the Hurricanes in program history. A&M will also try to keep its winning streak alive against the Lobos and Warhawks. The Aggies hold a 5-0 record against New Mexico, with their last win coming in a 34-0 bout during the 2021 season.

A&M also holds a 4-0 advantage over the Warhawks since its first matchup in 1985. The Aggies last faced ULM in 2018.
