Time Ticking for Aggies Coach Jimbo Fisher? 'No Future!' Says Paul Finebaum

If the Texas A&M Aggies fail to reach expectations again, it would be impossible to not question Jimbo Fisher's ability to lead the program into the future.

The Texas A&M Aggies fell to the Miami Hurricanes in a 48-33 finish at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday, so naturally, college football analyst Paul Finebaum crawled up from the depths of his ESPN studios to bash A&M coach Jimbo Fisher once again.

While Finebaum hasn't exactly taken it easy on Fisher in the past, it's hard to argue with his recent stance. If the Aggies aren't able to bounce back from Saturday's loss and finish the season with another average record, questions surrounding Fisher's future will be tough to ignore.

"At the end of the season, if A&M is looking at a mediocre record, that $75 million will not be a factor," Finebaum said on The Matt Barrie Show. " ... I don't think [Fisher] will be able to survive if they don't reach a certain mark and it's a little bit hard to tell on September 10 what that number is, but if they are losing games like this on a consistent basis, then he has no future."

Of course, one non-conference loss won't define a season. A&M still has multiple opportunities to prove what it can do. SEC matchups with the likes of Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, and Ole Miss could provide the Aggies with the stepping stone they need to try and compete for a conference championship. The only home game of those four is the one against Alabama, meaning the Aggies have an opportunity for statement road wins against the other three teams.

On the flip side, if the Aggies can't win any of those four big games and instead settle for a potential 6-6 record, it would be impossible to not question Fisher's ability to lead the program into the future.

But his 2023 story is still yet to be written, as the Aggies could turn their season around quickly, starting with a matchup at home on Saturday against Louisiana-Monroe.
