Is New Texas A&M Edge Nic Scourton Aggies 'Biggest Win' in Transfer Portal?

Out of all of the additions to the roster via the NCAA Transfer Portal, new Texas A&M Aggies edge rusher Nic Scourton might be the biggest.

The Texas A&M Aggies had one of the best transfer hauls in the country this offseason, bringing in difference-makers across the board at various positions.

However, their biggest addition might have been edge rusher Nic Snourton, who ranked as the No. 10 player in the portal.

Not only does Scourton come in at a massive position of need for Texas A&M but he also provides incredible versatility for the Aggies.

In fact, Bleacher Report believes Scourton is such a good fit in College Station, that will end up being the biggest win from the portal next season for the Aggies.

"Getting guys like cornerback Dezz Ricks (Alabama), Cashius Howell (Bowling Green), Jaydon Hill and Scooby Williams (Florida) and others will help ease the sting of those who left," wrote Bleacher Report. "But the biggest "win" in the portal was former Purdue edge-rusher Nic Scourton."

"At 6'4", 280 pounds, Scourton shouldn't be able to move the way he does, but he's an elite force with high NFL upside. For the Boilermakers in '23, he had a breakout season with 50 tackles, including 15 for loss and 10 sacks. He also had three passes defended and a forced fumble."

This past season with Purdue, Scourton led the Big Ten in sacks this season with 10 and was tied for No. 9 in the nation alongside Alabama standout Dallas Turner, and Tennesee's James Pearce Jr, and had more sacks than probable first-round NFL Draft picks such as Florida State's Jared Verse, Penn State's Chop Robinson, Washington's Bralen Trice, and Ohio State's JT Tuimoloau.

He also ranked fourth in the Big Ten in tackles for loss with 15. In his two years with the Boilermakers, Scourton had 72 tackles, three pass deflections, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles, and 17 tackles for loss.

The addition of Scourton was a four-star recruit and the No. 46 player in Texas per On3 when he signed with the Boilermakers in 2021, picking Purdue over Marshall, Memphis, and Nevada. Rivals.com had him ranked as the no. 15 player in Texas and No. 8 defensive lineman in the country.
