Being a color commentator for ESPN and a national champion might have its perks.

For Greg McElroy come the fall of 2024, he'll need to make a pretty convincing pitch to his producers at ESPN in Bristol, CT. to try and get him and play-by-play announcer Joe Tessitore on some key Southeastern Conference games. One of those games McElroy wants to be on the call for is the return of the Texas A&M Aggies and Texas Longhorns' "Lone Star Showdown."

"It's a phenomenal rivalry that we all grew up with, and we're so happy to have it back," McElroy said during the schedule reveal on "SEC Now" June 14. "And to have it under the umbrella of the SEC makes it even more special."

The Aggies learned their conference opponents for 2024 last week, and while they found out they were playing LSU and Missouri at home, the highly anticipated matchup announcement was if they were playing Texas and where.

Texas A&M athletics director Ross Bjork made it clear he wanted to play the Longhorns as soon as possible with the game being in College Station. He got his wish as the matchup was announced it will be at Kyle Field.

Former Florida quarterback and SEC Network contributor Tim Tebow joined the show later on and said the SEC did a "really good job" of preserving the traditions of the conference and the sport in its scheduling.

"What makes college so special is the tradition of the rivalries and there's still so many of those in play that are going to give fans so much amazing memories and moments that they can watch their teams against their rivals," Tebow said. "I'm excited about it."

McElroy said he hopes the matchup will be "sometime around Thanksgiving" — the time frame when the annual rivalry used to take place.

"The amount of vitriol that exists in that rivalry in both directions, knowing it's coming back for the first time since 2011," McElroy said. "I'm sure Aggie faithful, being as kind as they are, will have a nice warm reception for their Longhorn brethren when they enter into Kyle Field."
