'Most Improved SEC Team!' - ESPN's Desmond Howard on Aggies

The Texas A&M Aggies had a down year in 2022, but ESPN analyst Desmond Howard thinks they have the potential to be a "dark horse."

The world was enamored watching the TCU Horned Frogs continually beat the odds, make the College Football Playoff and make a national championship appearance.

Now, the big talking point in college football circles is: who is this year's TCU? ESPN's "College GameDay" discussed this topic and Desmond Howard came to the conclusion that this season it is the Texas A&M Aggies.

"I'm not saying they are going to make the College Football Playoff, but I think they are going to be so, so better than they were a year ago," Howard said. "Most-improved team in the SEC — one of the best in the nation as far as improvement is concerned. A ton of experience. Last year, they were very young, went through a ton of injuries. They got (offensive coordinator) Bobby Petrino."

In a prior segment, Howard said the Aggies were the "dark horse" in the SEC this year. Last season, Howard infamously had Texas A&M winning the national championship.

Texas A&M has an opportunity to throw a wrench in the SEC West with games against Alabama and LSU. The Aggies have been one of the best teams against the Crimson Tide the past few years and they beat the Tigers to put a bow on 2022's 5-7 season.

"College GameDay" host Rece Davis hinted at the fact that Petrino and head coach Jimbo Fisher might butt heads in solving the offense. Petrino said the two getting along is "not really how it works."

"Coach is the boss," Petrino said. "My job is to try and keep him happy and make sure that everything works the way he wants it to work."

The Aggies' reprieve from last season begins Sept. 2 against New Mexico at 6 p.m. CT at Kyle Field.
