Aggies Key To Success In 2023: 'If Jimbo Keeps His Butt Out Of The Way!'

The upcoming season is a pivotal one for not just the Texas A&M Aggies, but for Jimbo Fisher as well.

The Texas A&M Aggies are nothing if not controversial. Even more so since the arrival of Jimbo Fisher in College Station in 2018. Now, combine that with the hiring of Bobby Petrino to take over the offense this offseason, and the Aggies can boast two of the most controversial figures in the SEC.

The upcoming season is a pivotal one for not just the Aggies, but for Fisher as well. After a 5-7 campaign last season that saw just a 2-6 SEC record and dysfunction from the offense, Fisher now hands the keys to the offense to Petrino, in what could be a make-or-break season in College Station for Fisher.

Lindy Sports’ 2023 preseason magazine featured outspoken opinions from various coaches regarding every team in the SEC, and most had the same underlying these surrounding the upcoming A&M season.

“The Jimbo Fisher/Bobby Petrino marriage: Sounds like a Nightmare on Elm Street scenario, doesn’t it? I know ’em both and they’re both single-minded,” one SEC coach stated. “It’ll be interesting to see if Jimbo will keep his butt out of the way. Petrino is not a feel-good, Mr. Happy type of guy, but he’s a great offensive mind.”

Fisher seemed reluctant to give up the offense and specifically play-calling duties, but with the lack of success last season, specifically on offense, he really had no choice heading into 2023.

Petrino isn't the most liked person in the SEC, but as coaches will tell you, he knows offense. And he could be the key to a successful Aggies season.
