Baseball: TCU Drops Midweek Road Contest to UT Arlington

The Horned Frogs entered the new week coming off of their best result in Big 12 play thus far, sweeping Houston in the three-game weekend series. The momentum was on TCU's side as it headed across town to take on UT Arlington, but the Mavericks brought Kirk Saarloos' group back to Earth, overcoming the Frogs 6-4.

Ben Hampton got the start on the mound for TCU and pitched just two innings, allowing one hit and one run. UT Arlington third baseman Tate Bethel hit an RBI single in the first inning to give the Mavericks a quick lead.

Andrew Mosiello took over on the mound in the third inning and completed just 0.1 innings while allowing four runs on four hits. With the bases loaded, UT Arlington singled three times, scoring three runs and hit a sacrifice fly to complete the four-run onslaught. Thankfully for the Frogs, Zach Wadas hit a solo homerun in the previous half inning to get them on the board, but nonetheless, they still faced a 5-1 deficit. Colt Taylor finished out the inning on the mound for TCU and put a stop to the scoring.

TCU started its comeback effort in the top of the sixth inning when Anthony Silva hit a single to left field, scoring Chase Brunson. Kurtis Byrne hit a two-run shot to left field the very next at-bat, closing the gap to 5-4. But in the bottom of the sixth, with Storm Hierholzer on the mound, the Mavericks got one more run courtesty of a Ryan Black RBI double. The score would remain at 6-4 for the rest of the game resulting in a disappointing TCU loss.

Braeden Sloan and Caedmon Parker finished out the game on the bump for TCU, combining for two hits allowed, two strikeouts, and two walks.

The Horned Frogs will look to get back in the win column on Friday as it opens a Big 12 series in Ohio against Cincinnati. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday, and Payton Tolle will start for TCU.
