TCU Baseball Cruises to a 6-2 Victory Over Houston

Behind an incredible performance from Payton Tolle, the Horned Frogs clinched their first Big 12 series win of the season.

TCU came into the weekend desperately needing a Big 12 series win and after two brilliant performances from Louis Rodriguez and Payton Tolle, the Frogs secured the series on Friday defeating Houston 6-2.

After a complete game shutout against Oklahoma State, Tolle followed up that performance masterfully going 8.2 innings giving up three hits on two earned runs and 13 strikeouts. His one walk came to his final batter he faced.

After a one-out double from Peyton Chatagnier, TCU struck first via a Chase Brunson single up the middle to make it 1-0 in the third inning. Brunson would steal second and Logan Maxwell drove him home to extend the lead to two.

The Frogs would add a run in the fourth on a Karson Bowen sac fly and continued to add on in the seventh. Chatagnier would continue his big day with a lead off triple and Brunson brought him home on a RBI single. Chatagnier went 2-4 from the nine hole and Brunson went 2-4 with three RBIs.

Things opened up in the eighth as the first three hitters for TCU reached base. A RBI single from Anthony Silva made it 5-0 and Brunson worked a walk to bring home the sixth run. Houston's starter Kyle LaCalameto went four innings surrendering three runs on six hits with two strikeouts.

The Cougars got on the board in the ninth thanks to a solo home run from Alex Rainess. They added one more run but it was too little too late. TCU improved their conference record to 4-7 and are looking to get back on track. The offense seems to have found its footing cashing in with runners in scoring position and getting quality at-bats this series.

The series will conclude on Saturday at 2 p.m. as Kole Klecker will get the nod looking to bring home the sweep over Houston.
