Bearcats Bring The Brooms And Sweep The Frogs

TCU suffers another conference series sweep as their losing streak extends to four games

The TCU Horned Frogs are now in the midst of a four-game losing streak after Sunday’s 13-2 loss to the Cincinnati Bearcats.

That is now two conference series sweeps that the Horned Frogs have suffered, having dropped the ball against the Oklahoma Sooners less than a month ago.

After a 4-2 loss on Friday and a 6-2 loss on Saturday, the offense jumped out to a quick start courtesy of Chase Brunson. On the second pitch of the afternoon, Brunson blasted his 4th long ball of the season.

Things took a quick and dire turn as the Bearcats posted three runs in the 1st inning and five in the 2nd. After an RBI single from Kerrington Cross to tie the game at one, Josh Kross cranked a two-run shot over the left field wall to give the Bearcats a 3-1 lead.

The 2nd innings saw the Bearcats bat around and send 11 men to the plate. With the bases loaded, the Bearcats added to their lead with an RBI single from Lauden Brooks before Zachary Cawyer surrendered two bases-loaded walks to give the Bearcats a 6-1 advantage.

A sacrifice fly from Josh Hegemann made it 7-1 before Hunter Jessee, who led off the inning with a double, drew a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 8-1. The Bearcats scored five runs on two hits, forcing the Frogs to make two pitching changes in the inning.

It was a short day for left hander Ben Hampton who made his first weekend start of the season. Hampton’s day was over after just 29 pitches through one inning. He allowed four runs on four hits.

The Frogs cut into the deficit with an RBI double from Payton Tolle, but the Bearcats continued to sit on a lofty, cushioned lead.

Andre Jones knocked in two runs with a single up the middle to make it 11-2 in the 6th before Kerrington Cross launched a two-run home run to cap off a run-rule of the Frogs.

A disappointing series for TCU sees the Frogs drop to 5-10 in the Big 12. With that said, the Frogs still have a record of 20-11. The Frogs will now return to Fort Worth to host the Texas Tech Red Raiders to a three game series starting on Friday, Apr. 12. Both games against UT Rio Grande Valley on Tuesday and Wednesday have been canceled.
