The 2023 college baseball regular season is in the books. The final weekend rounded out all the seeding for the Big 12 Championship, hosted at Globe Life Field over Memorial Day weekend. How did the final weekend shake out in the Big 12 and what does the tournament look like?

Let's dive in.

Big 12 Championship Baseball Tournament Bracket Set

We laid out last weekend that in order to capture a Big 12 regular season title, Texas would need to sweep West Virginia. The Longhorns did just that, claiming the No. 1 tournament seed. Oklahoma State took two of three from Oklahoma to lock in the No. 2 position – and another date with the Sooners in the opening round – while West Virginia falls to No. 3.

Here's the full seeding:

1. Texas Longhorns
2. Oklahoma State Cowboys
3. West Virginia Mountaineers
4. TCU Horned Frogs
5. Kansas State Wildcats
6. Texas Tech Red Raiders
7. Oklahoma Sooners
8. Kansas Jayhawks

Note: Baylor came in last and did not make the field.

TCU, who took two of three from Kansas State in Manhattan this weekend, locks in the No. 4 seed and has a rematch against No. 5 K-State beginning Wednesday, May 24 at 9:00 a.m. CT. The game is the lone first-round matchup to land on ESPNU.

The tournament is a double-elimination, meaning a team has to lose twice to be fully out of the running.

  • 2022: Oklahoma Sooners (3)
  • 2021: TCU Horned Frogs (3)
  • 2020: Canceled
  • 2019: Oklahoma State Cowboys (3)
  • 2018: Baylor

Oklahoma leads the all-time appearances mark with 22, followed closely by Baylor with 21. However, it is Texas that has the most conference tournament championships with five, most recently in 2015. Missouri, Nebraska, and Texas A&M each have multiple appearances – and Nebraska has four titles – but they no longer play in the Big 12. Iowa State has one historical appearance, but the Cyclones no longer sponsor baseball.

The tournament was moved from Oklahoma City to Globe Life Field beginning in 2022, where it will be played until at least 2025.
