TCU Baseball Evens the Series with 4-2 Win over Texas Tech

The Horned Frogs snapped a five game losing streak behind some stellar pitching and timely offense.

In a game that TCU desperately needed, the Frogs buckled down and got a big 4-2 win over Texas Tech on Saturday. They needed a quick start and got just that. Chase Brunson led off with a single up the middle. Three batters later, Kurtis Byrne drove him home on a RBI single to make it 1-0.

It wouldn't take long for the Red Raiders (26-10, 9-8) to respond as a one-out double by Cade McGee put Tech in front 2-1. After that inning, Louis Rodriguez cruised in his start. He pitched 5.1 innings giving up four hits on two earned runs with four strikeouts. It was a terrific start for the sophomore.

The Horned Frogs (21-12, 6-11) tied the game in the bottom of the third. Sam Myers reached on a bunt single, and Logan Maxwell tripled to center field to tie the game at 2.

Ben Abeldt pitched in relief of Rodriguez in the top of the sixth and after giving up a single to Drew Woodcox, he retired the next two batters with runners in scoring position. The Frogs regained the lead in the sixth courtesy of a RBI single by Luke Boyers. They tacked on an insurance run in the eighth via a squeeze bunt by Peyton Chatagnier.

Abedlt picked up the win going 2.2 innings giving up four hits, no runs, and three strikeouts. With the tying run on first in the top of the ninth, Kirk Saarloos handed the ball to Kole Klecker with an opportunity to pick up the save. He struck all three batters he faced and picked up his first career save.

It was a big win for TCU and they now have an opportunity to steal the series from Texas Tech. Mason Bixby will toe the rubber for the Frogs on Sunday, with first pitch at 1 p.m.
