TCU Baseball Opens Weekend in Norman With a Win

Behind a 13-run offensive explosion, No. 11 TCU opened their weekend set with the Sooners up in Norman with a win.

The win improved the Frogs' record to 10-7 on the season.

As most Frog fans were biting their nails and screaming at their TV's watching the basketball team in Denver, Ryan Vanderhei picked up his second win of the season. He pitched five innings only giving up one run. He was able to strike out two batters but walks were an issue as he allowed four of them.

Sam Stoutenborough came on in relief of Vanderhei in the sixth and was able to pitch two shutout innings, but had some trouble in the eighth allowing three runs and wasn't quite able to close things out. Cohen Feser came on with two out in the ninth to get the final out for the Frogs.

The offense put on a show.

It got going early in the top of the second inning scoring three runs emphasized by a Brayden Taylor two-run homer. They added more in the fifth and sixth innings behind three Cole Fontenelle doubles and a home run from Carson Bowen. They also added five insurance runs throughout the eighth and ninth inning for good measure.

They get going again tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. in Norman looking to clinch a series victory.
