Football Bowl Season: Final Staff Confidence Pool Update

With only the National Championship Game remaining, we now know how our staff did with their bowl picks.

"It's the most wonderful time of the year, with bowl teams footballing and everyone telling you to be of good cheer; it's the most wonderful time of the year."

"It's the hap-happiest season of all, with those college teams meeting, and spectators tweeting when football fans call, it's the hap-happiest season of all."

Washington Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr. (9) runs the ball during the fourth quarter against the Texas Longhorns in the 2024 Sugar Bowl college football playoff semifinal game at Caesars Superdome.

Michael Penix led the Washington Huskies to a 14-0 season and an appearance in the National Championship Game.

Bowl Season. It began on December 16 with 82 teams playing in 41 bowl games. Now, we are down to two teams - Michigan and Washington - who will play each other on Monday night in the National Championship Game.

Most of our staff competed in a confidence pool this bowl season. What is a confidence pool? First, you pick the winners of each game, including the national championship game. Then, once you have the winners, you rank them 1-42. The game you're most confident in the outcome of is the one that gets the 42 points. The game you're least confident in the outcome of is the one that gets the 1 point. After all the games are played, the person with the most points wins, not necessarily the one who wins the most games.

How did our staff do? Here are the final tallies based on whichever team wins the game Monday night:

If Michigan wins

  1. Davis Wilson - 558 points; 28 wins
  2. Barry Lewis - 546 points; 31 wins
  3. Nick Girimonte - 541 points; 27 wins
  4. Andrew Bauhs - 529 points; 31 wins
  5. Tori Couch - 529 points; 28 wins
  6. Brett Gibbons -510 points; 28 wins
  7. Nathan Cross - 495 points; 26 wins
  8. Ryann Zeller - 489 points; 27 wins
  9. Ian Napetian - 464 points; 27 wins
  10. Carson Wersal - 457 points; 28 wins
  11. Nathan Hernandez - 403 points; 28 wins

If Washington wins

  1. Davis Wilson - 558 points; 28 wins
  2. Barry Lewis - 540 points; 30 wins
  3. Nick Girimonte - 540 points; 26 wins
  4. Tori Couch - 526 points; 27 wins
  5. Andrew Bauhs - 514 points; 30 wins
  6. Brett Gibbons -509 points; 27 wins
  7. Ryann Zeller - 490 points; 28 wins
  8. Carson Wersal - 457 points; 28 wins
  9. Nathan Cross - 455 points; 25 wins
  10. Ian Napetian - 451 points; 26 wins
  11. Nathan Hernandez - 403 points; 28 wins

Congratulations to Davis. He will be the winner among our team, regardless of which team wins on Monday. He had Texas winning the Natty, but only had one point on them.

The good news here is the 2024 football season begins in 232 days. The Week 0 Games will be played on August 24.
