Bru McCoy Undergoes Surgery, Tennessee Releases Statement

Tennessee Volunteers wide receiver Bru McCoy underwent successful surgery to repair an injury sustained against South Carolina, per the team.

The Vols have had trouble establishing a rhythm in the passing game this year, but when they've needed a big play, wide receiver Bru McCoy has been their most reliable target. The senior assumed the No. 1 receiver role this offseason after NFL departures left the receiver room inexperienced, but a roadblock popped up on Saturday evening.

McCoy caught a routine slant pass and tried to turn upfield, but a South Carolina defender landed on his ankle while falling down. Bru fell to the turf and was soon carted off. The team has since confirmed that McCoy underwent surgery since the game in what they are calling, "a fracture-dislocation of his right ankle."

"Bru McCoy underwent successful surgery this morning after suffering a fracture-dislocation of his right ankle on Saturday night. Bru and his family appreciate all of your prayers and support since last night and in the days ahead. Bru has displayed unwavering toughness, character and leadership as a Vol on and off the field, and now he begins the road to recovery determined to make this just a minor setback on his football journey." - Tennessee Football on Bru McCoy

McCoy does have another year of eligibility remaining, if he chooses to use it. Initially, the plan was for him to move on to the professional ranks after this season, but it's possible those plans could change in the months ahead after the surgery.
