Hendon Hooker Meeting With Bucs And Raiders

Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Hendon Hooker already met with the Detroit Lions this week but has meetings with two more franchises.

As the 2023 NFL Draft draws nearer, teams continue to pursue former Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker. Hooker visited with the Detroit Lions on Wednesday, and on Wednesday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that he would be meeting with Tampa Bay and Las Vegas this week, as well. In February, Ryan Fowler listed the Raiders as one of the five teams who had met “extensively” with Hooker, but he did not include the Buccaneers.

Tampa Bay currently holds the No. 19 and 50 overall picks to start the draft. It seems more and more likely that Hooker will be gone before 50, so they could be targeting him at 19.

With Tom Brady’s retirement, the Bucs were left with Kyle Trask, but they also went out and signed Baker Mayfield to a one-year deal. Neither Trask nor Mayfield seems like sure-fire long-term options, so taking a quarterback wouldn’t be a crazy idea.

As for Las Vegas, they hold the No. 7 and 38 overall picks to start the draft. After moving on from Derek Carr, they signed Jimmy Garoppolo to a three-year deal, and they also have Brian Hoyer. Hooker going to Las Vegas would be a lot more unexpected, given the recent trust they put in Garoppolo with a long-term contract. We have seen crazier things, and the draft is always full of surprises, so it is really anybody’s guess where Hooker will end up.
