Welcome to VolMaven

First and foremost, let me be the first to welcome you to Vol Maven, Sports Illustrated's new outlet dedicated solely to Tennessee Volunteers athletics! With that being said, allow me to introduce myself.

My name is Cory Sanning and many of you (most of you, actually) have probably never heard my name before, and that's OK. A native of Dayton, Ohio, I ventured down to Knoxville with my family in 2010 and began attending the University of Tennessee in the spring of 2017.

I've always had a love for sports and to be able to parlay that love into being a storyteller has been a dream come true. My journalism career began that same day in January 2017 when I became a contributor for the campus newspaper, The Daily Beacon and a field reporter for The Volunteer Channel.

This will be my third season covering Tennessee football and men's basketball, and I've also provided coverage for every sport on campus, beginning with men's tennis so many years ago.

From that point, I also ventured off into the radio side of broadcasting, becoming a regular guest and on-air personality for WUTK Radio 90.3 The Rock, UT's award-winning college radio station. I've also done work for the Knoxville News Sentinel, ESPNU, and I just completed a summer internship at WVLT-TV, which is also Tennessee's flagship sports station.

My journey in student media is one that I will always look back on fondly. At just 22, it has allowed me to sit down and interview athletes that I dreamed of meeting when I was a young sports fan watching from his couch. And no, there was plenty of Dorito's and Mountain Dew involved at the time.

From Dwyane Wade and Erik Spoelstra to Peyton Manning and Phillip Fulmer to the likes of ESPN's Paul Finebaum and Laura Rutledge, it has been quite a ride.

Enough about me, though.

Here at Vol Maven, you will find the most up-to-date news on Tennessee football, basketball, recruiting and much more! From hosting a weekly podcast to entertaining and informative video content, I can't begin to express to all of you how thrilled I am to begin this journey with you - a journey surrounding the excitement that occurs on the banks of the Tennessee River.

You may not always agree with what I have to say, and that's fine. I'm here to both provide you with extensive coverage of Tennessee athletics and be a pillar for a community that is one of the most passionate in all of sports, college or professional.

Fans will be able to post on the Vol Maven community board, read game articles as well as columns and videos from yours truly.

Did I mention video? Of course I did.

From film room breakdowns to fair and objective analysis along with breaking news in both digital and readable forms, I'm looking forward to ushering in a new era of journalism to Knoxville - one that begins and ends with you, the fans.
