Rick Barnes's team made another early exit in the NCAA tournament at the hands of Oregon State. Barnes's team may have not received its last blow of March, as Kim English,a  rising star in the coaching world, is reportedly the front-runner for a vacant head coaching position.

John Brice reports English is the front-runner for the vacant head coaching position at George Mason.

"The @Vol_Hoops season is done & major changes looming for Rick Barnes’ program. Per multiple sources the past 48 hours, top #Vols assistant Kim English, widely seen as a brilliant up-and-coming coach, is the frontrunner for the George Mason head coaching job. #Vols #RockyTop"

English joined Barnes's staff in 2019, and he remained on staff despite drawing interest for vacant head coaching positions last off-season.

The high-energy assistant coach has been an excellent recruiter for the Vols and helped them land elite point guard Kennedy Chandler over practically every school in the country.

"Kim has added a lot, he's young, he's energetic, he can still play and I think the fact that he's made such a great, quick impact with the players, they trust him and they appreciate what he's done as a player," Barnes has previously told the media.

This will be an interesting situation to monitor moving forward.
