Evaluating Tennessee's 2024 Recruiting Board After 865 Live

The Tennessee Volunteers have made big strides on the 2024 recruiting scene. As the dog days approach, what further moves will be made to advance an already strong class?

Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel and his staff have two crucial objectives. First, they must prepare everyone on campus and the 2023 Tennessee football roster. Prepare them to win games every Saturday to win. Winning the SEC East, winning the SEC Championship, and of course, winning playoff games, and ultimately, a national championship.

Second, to stay ahead of the curve, this staff needs to stay diligent within the recruiting realm. So far, they have done both, passing with flying colors in both departments. Most recently, in the latter, the Vols secured a commitment from four-star running back Peyton Lewis on Saturday afternoon. Tennessee added Lewis as the fourth offensive playmaker in the class, alongside centerpieces Jake Merklinger, Jonathan Echols, and JJ Harrell. The team is currently in the mix for multiple more high-end 2024 pieces. For one, Boo Carter, who attended Tennessee's 865 Live Event this past weekend, is trending toward Tennessee minute by minute. Other guys like Amaris Williams and Williams Nwaneri are also huge names to look out for.

Nwaneri is primarily considering Tennessee and Oklahoma. 247Sports Director of Scouting Steve Wiltfong shared that if he had to put in a prediction for Nwaneri, he would slightly lean toward Tennessee, which is huge news for the Vols. If the Vols can secure two of those three commits, this will likely become a top-five class. Tennessee currently sits around the latter half of the top ten in recruiting with a sky-high upside. They have done this without securing a five-star yet, which would change if Nwaneri chose the Vols. While the season starts to creep closer, Heupel and his crew continue to lock up key guys to continue building on the success they have already seen here in Knoxville. While the future is bright for this season, the more recruits that pour in, the more that applies to the more distant future.
