Commitment Day Preview: Final Thoughts On Danny Okoye

In this story:
Despite a hiccup on the field to start the year, the Tennessee Volunteers still have the No. 8 recruiting class in college football. A quartet of talented defensive linemen highlights the group of 20 commits. Defensive line coach Rodney Garner has developed a reputation for developing NFL prospects, and he goes after a few big fish every cycle.
Alabama edge rusher Jordan Ross was his biggest win of the cycle. Ross is the No. 29 player in America, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. He's their lone edge commit in the class, but the Vols hope to add to that total today. Oklahoma four-star edge rusher Danny Okoye announces his college decision at 6:30 PM EST. The No. 10 edge rusher in the class will decide between Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas.
Garner developed a strong relationship with Okoye and got him on campus for an unofficial visit this summer. That trip spurned a months-long pursuit that saw Tennessee become Okoye's No. 1 school at one point. There was a lot of momentum that he could make an early decision, as there was a swift momentum swing from the previous favorite Oklahoma Sooners. However, the in-state allure started tilting things back toward the Sooners at the beginning of the month.
A recent visit has Oklahoma trending ahead of his announcement. The Vols have still been in the thick of things over the past few days, but we are submitting our day-off prediction in favor of the Sooners.
