Coveted In-State WR Horton Talks Vols, Closing in on a Decision

Norcross, Ga.-- Oakland High School (Tenn.) receiver Isaiah Horton has a top list of four schools featuring Alabama, Florida, Miami and Tennessee. Horton continues to hear from each of his finalists and gives the latest with Tennessee here.

Josh Heupel's staff has continued to prioritize Horton since arriving in Knoxville, and he says he hears from Heupel and Kodi Burns daily.

Horton admits Tennessee's coaching change set them back "just a little bit but not much" in his recruitment, but he is keeping the door open for the Vols and listening to their pitch.

"Just come start something different. It is a new team, and a new offense is going to be in place. They want me to come be a big part of it," Horton said on Tennessee's message.

Horton has liked the genuine message from Heupel and Burns as the duo recruit him actively. "They are real people. They are honest people. Every time we get on the phone together, they just tell me the straight truth and honesty. That is all I can really ask for from them."

The versatile pass-catcher helped Oakland to a state title this fall, and he is hearing how he can help Tennessee get back to championship caliber football as an essential part of their offense if he was to come to Knoxville.

"I would be an outside receiver and a big deep threat for them. Just a big target for them on the outside," he said.

This is the pitch Horton hears from all of the schools vying for his services down the stretch. Which is going to leave his decision up to one thing.

"I am probably just going to go off of how I feel about it at that time, honestly," he said.

There is a "little appeal" for Horton to stay in-state and play for Tennessee, but he does not consider that a major factor in his recruitment.

So, when could a decision come for Horton? "A little later this month, or in April," He says.
