Four-Star WR Freddie Dubose Jr. Commits To Texas Over Tennessee, Leaves Vols Searching For 2024 WRs

2024 four-star wide receiver Freddie Dubose Jr., who had visited the Tennessee Volunteers recently, chose to stay in-state and committed to the Texas Longhorns.

The Tennessee Volunteers found great success in 2024 from their wide receiver room. The only problem with that is those players have gone on to the NFL now, and the Vols must reload. Tennessee is without a receiver in its 2024 recruiting class, and though the coaching staff has several targets they are closing in on, one came off the board this week.

Freddie Dubose Jr. is a four-star 2024 wide receiver out of Smithson Valley High School in Spring Branch, Texas. The four-star measures 6-1 and 170 pounds. Tennessee offered Dubose Jr. in July 2022, and he had offers from 19 other schools, too. Those schools included Texas A&M, Arkansas, Baylor, Houston, Texas, and more. It would always be tough to pry him out of the Lone Star state, with competition from the University of Texas and several other in-state schools, but Tennessee gave it its best shot. Dubose visited in late May, with possibly another visit scheduled for June. In the end, the visit to Austin just a couple of days ago did the job, and Dubose Jr. will be a Longhorn, playing in the SEC once he gets on campus in 2024.

On the field, the track runner shows his explosive speed play after play. Before an ACL injury, he went for 24 catches, 423 yards, and two scores in his last full season in 2021, but he was just a sophomore. He also scored a kickoff return touchdown that season. He beats defenders off the ball and down the field and is tough to catch once he has the pigskin in his hands. He would have been a nice addition to the Volunteer offensive, but head coach Josh Heupel and company will have to look elsewhere.
