In this story:

Jake Merklinger is a Four Star Quarterback from the Class of 2024, hailing from Calvary Day School in Savannah, Georgia. Merklinger has a plethora of offers, including hometown champion UGA, North Carolina, Michigan State, and the Tennessee Volunteers. Despite having class of 2023 QB Nico Iamaleava as the heir to the throne, the Vols have been active in the recruitment of a couple of 2024 QBs, with Jake and 5-Star Jadyn Davis.

Davis may be Plan A for the Volunteers when it comes to the Class of 2024, but Merklinger is certainly a bright young prospect, and nothing to scoff at under center. The peach state product was recently given a crystal ball to Tennessee by 247Sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong. Joey Haltzle, the Tennessee QB Coach, has done an excellent job talking to the 2024 QB prospects, and selling the program to them it seems.

Merklinger has announced that his commitment decision is coming in a couple of days, on Thursday March 30. Jake seems to have made the decision, but is just waiting to make the public announcement. On the school he picked, the QB said "“It felt like a home away from home. It’s a place I felt wanted, and I have a great relationship with the coaches. I enjoyed the people there, and I think this is the place that can get my game to the highest level.” If it is indeed Knoxville, this is high praise for Rocky Top.

When specifically referring to the Vols, Merklinger mentioned his great relationship with the staff, and how good they are at developing Quarterbacks. "Seeing Hendon Hooker's growth under Josh Heupel was awesome. And what else can you say about playing in the SEC in front of 100,000 fans."

With Jake's decision coming Thursday, followed by Jadyn Davis's decision on Friday, the Volunteers will shortly know where they stand with a couple of huge 2024 prospects. With Nico Iameleava already on the scene, the future is becoming very bright for signal callers in Knoxville.
