In this story:

The Tennessee Volunteers were steadfast in their pursuit of five-star running back Jerrick Gibson for a long time. Gibson is the No. 1 back in America and drew major suitors to IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) since his freshman season. Tennessee was a finalist for his services alongside several others, but the Texas Longhorns offered the strongest pitch.

Texas hosted Gibson on several unofficial visits throughout the year and won his heart over on a recent unofficial visit. Seeing what Bijan Robinson accomplished with the Longhorns was quite tempting for Gibson - Robinson starred for three years in the Lone Star State before becoming the No. 8 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Vols already have four-star running back Peyton Lewis in the class. Lewis is an elite athlete with a track background and impressive high school production. The coaching staff plans to take two running backs in the 2024 class, and with Gibson off the board, all focus turns to four-star running back Braylen Russell, an Arkansas native that they have been turning the heat up on recently. Tennessee sits comfortably for Russell and is competing with the in-state Arkansas Razorbacks for his services. Their 2024 class is filling out well, but they need multiple names in that backfield.
