In this story:

Jontae Gilbert is a familiar name in the Tennessee recruiting scene. Gilbert is a class of 2025 defensive back prospect from Douglass High School in Atlanta, Georgia. He measures in at around 6-1 and 185 pounds. Formally committed to Ohio State, Gilbert decommitted and has had Tennessee involved in his recruitment. Gilbert, who ranks No. 28 in the nation and the 6th cornerback in the nation according to 247Sports' Composite Rankings, recently broke down his recruitment updates with Volunteer Country

"My recruitment as of late has been good. It's starting to get critical now," the talented defensive back states. He then says, "South Carolina, Tennessee, Clemson, and Georgia have been pushing really hard. I have been talking to all of them and making that relationship stronger." When looking at South Carolina, Gilbert states, "I'm close with them. Most of that staff knows my high school head coach because he went to South Carolina, so they are really high on me and keep in touch a lot."

When looking at Clemson, whom he is currently Crystal Balled to by Steve Wiltfong (12/06/23) and Clemson insider Cory Fravel (12/06/23) of 247Sports, the talented Atlanta prospect states, "Coach Goodwin, Conn, and Swinney love me. They love that I can play every position in the backend, and if I come there, that's the plan for me."

When looking at Georgia, the Georgia High School DB states, "Coach Donte, who was at USC, has made it clear; I have been a must-get for him in this 2025 class." When looking at Tennessee, the longtime Volunteer target states, "Coach Banks and Coach Heupel treat me like a priority. They feel like I can play a big part in their defense." Gilbert does have visits scheduled, as he has stated to Volunteer Country. The current plan for the highly ranked recruit is below.

  • Georgia: January 13th
  • Tennessee: January 20th
  • South Carolina: January 27th

The Volunteers will likely be in a dogfight throughout this recruitment as they attempt to bring in the talented cornerback. Each visit will play a big part, as the guys at 247Sports seem to believe Clemson is the leader. Tennessee will have the chance to make a big impact on the long-term recruit on January 20th.
