Mekhai White Cuts Down Recruitment

In this story:
The Tennessee Volunteers hope to stockpile talent in their wide receiver room in the 2024 recruiting cycle. They already have four-star wideout JJ Harrell committed but plan to add at least four members to that position group. Three-star wide receiver Mekhai White has been a name they have circled for a while, and he cut his recruitment down to eight schools on Wednesday afternoon.
- Arkansas
- LSU
- Maryland
- Michigan
- Oklahoma
- Penn State
- Tennessee
- Virginia Tech
White has three official visits scheduled for this summer with Arkansas, Maryland, and Virginia Tech. The NCAA will allow athletes to schedule an unlimited amount of official visits beginning July 1, so White likely ends up taking visits to most of the schools on this list. He unofficially visited the Vols last summer and hasn't scheduled a return trip, but he spoke highly of Tennessee with On3. He told staff writer Jeremy Johnson that he likes Tennessee's coaching staff and the fast-paced offense. He stands 6-3 and 185 pounds, doubling as a standout on the basketball court. The Virginia native is favoring other schools over Tennessee, but the Vols feel confident they could get back in the race if they choose to turn up the heat.
The Vols are set on two five-star wideouts, Mike Matthews and Ryan Wingo. They will get Matthews on campus this summer but are waiting to get Wingo on campus for an official visit on a game day. Tennessee native Amari Jefferson is another wideout to keep an eye on, as he's committed to Tennessee to play baseball but recently became a Power-5 football prospect.
