ESPN: Former Texas Tech QB gets opportunity with Dallas Cowboys

A familiar name is reportedly getting an opportunity in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys. On Wednesday, ESPN NFL reporter Todd Archer indicated that the Cowboys invited former Texas Tech QB Donovan Smith to participate in their rookie minicamp this weekend on a tryout basis.

Smith spent three years with the Red Raiders before transferring to Houston for his final two years of eligibility.

During his final season with Texas Tech in 2022, Smith threw for 1,505 yards and 12 touchdowns on 146-of-221 completions. He also added 116 yards and 7 rushing touchdowns that same season. Smith's career with the Red Raiders is highlighted by two incredible performances against Houston and Texas in the 2022 season, both resulting in wins for Texas Tech.

Against Houston, Smith finished with a career -high 350 yards passing and three total touchdowns, including the game winning rushing touchdown to seal the win in double overtime. Just two weeks later against Texas, Smith led the Red Raiders to a win over No. 22 Texas, throwing for 331 yards and 2 TDs.

Following the 2022 season, Smith transferred to Houston for his final two years of eligibility.
