Jonathon Brooks' Career Day Lifts Texas Over Kansas

The Texas running back was giving the Kansas defense trouble all day long

Texas Longhorns fans no longer have Bijan Robinson to look forward to watching in a Longhorn uniform, but the heir to his throne is doing quite well himself.

After spending the past couple of years on the bench behind both Robinson and Roschon Johnson, it is now Jonathon Brooks' time to shine for Texas and shine he did. En route to a 40-14 win over the undefeated No. 24 Kansas Jayhawks, Brooks exploded rushing for 218 yards and two touchdowns. The 218 rushing yards surpassed the amount of rushing yards he had on the season a year ago, and is a career high.

He along with fellow running back CJ Baxter and even Quinn Ewers who ran in for two scores, combined for four rushing touchdowns.

The strong showing from Texas' run game helped them advance to 5-0 for the first time since 2009, which was also the last time they made it to the BCS Championship.

While there weren't many worries about this Texas team heading into the 2023 season, there were questions as to how they would make up for the losses of their two running backs. With the emergence of Brooks, this offense is now as well-rounded as any offense in the country.

Ewers appears to be hitting his stride as a passer despite his first pick of the season coming against the Jayhawks, and now teams have the Texas run game to worry about.

With their matchup against Oklahoma looming this next week, the Longhorns now have given the Sooners another element to worry about stopping.
