Ridiculous Buyout Numbers For Texas Head Coach Steve Sarkisian Revealed

The Texas Longhorns head coach got an extension after leading the Longhorns to a Big 12 title and College Football Playoff appearance.

Following what was the best season the Texas Longhorns have had since 2009, head coach Steve Sarkisian was signed to a contract extension.

The deal was overdue anyway, but Nick Saban retiring and Alabama perusing around Austin to see if Sarkisian wanted to return certainly helped speed up the process. The Longhorns' head coach is now under contract through 2030, and is now one of the highest-paid head coaches, making $ 10+ million per year. On top of his lucrative salary, he has access to a private plane, and will also receive a $300,000 bonus before April 1.

While firing Sarkisian is a conversation Texas fans hope they never need to have, we also recently learned how much his buyout is per year.

According to a report by Inside Texas' Joe Cook, if the Longhorns were to want to move on from Sarkisian at any point it would be a costly decision. For example, if Texas were to part ways with Sarkisian next season, they would owe him $54,315,000.

The price goes down as each year goes bo, but again this is just details that coincide with his contract. If something were to happen to force Texas to have to pay one of these fees, it would certainly be a tough blow for the program that is riding one of the highest highs it has experienced in over a decade.

While Sarkisian turned down an opportunity to return to Alabama, he will be returning to the SEC in 2024. The Longhorns, along with Oklahoma, will be making their debuts as SEC members next season, with the Longhorns having quite the slate ahead of them.

On the bright side, they returned one of the best quarterbacks in college football, bolstered their receiver room, and also added some talent to the defense to bump up that unit.
