Charles Omenihu is headed to a contender.

The former Texas Longhorns defensive end agreed to terms on a two-year deal worth up to $20 million Tuesday evening with the Kansas City Chiefs. Omenihu spent the previous season and a half with the San Francisco 49ers as a rotational defensive end.

Omenihu, 25, now joins the defending Super Bowl champions as the likely replacement for Frank Clark, who was released earlier this month after the two sides could come to terms on a new restructured contract. The veteran defender should pair opposite of former first-round pick Geroge Karlaftis, who finished with six sacks during his rookie season.

Drafted in the fifth round by the Houston Texans in 2019, Omenihu mostly saw reps as a pass-rushing specialist. During his two-and-half seasons in Houston, he totaled eight tackles for loss, seven sacks and 24 quarterback pressures. He was traded at the NFL deadline in 2021 to the Niners in exchange for a 2023 sixth-round pick.

Once in the bay, he quickly became a prominent member of the Niners' defensive line rotation, playing on the edge and inside depending on the formation of then-defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans. In 26 games, Omenihu posted 26 tackles, three tackles for loss and a career-high 4.5 sacks.

Prior to the Niners' matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship, Omenihu was arrested for suspicion of domestic violence. He was also issued a restraining order after his girlfriend alleged he pushed her to the ground in an argument. The case was submitted to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office for possible charges.

A native of Houston, Omenihu played four years for the Longhorns and was a two-year starter from 2017-18. In 48 games, the 6-6 defensive end recorded 115 total tackles, 30 tackles for loss, 16.5 sacks and four forced fumbles.
