Longhorns Transfer Arterio Morris Staying in Big 12, Commits to Kansas

Texas Longhorns transfer guard Arterio Morris has committed to the Kansas Jayhawks.

Texas Longhorns transfer Arterio Morris will now be looking to bite his former team in the back at least two times next season.

Morris, a former five-star recruit in Texas' 2022 class, committed to the Kansas Jayhawks on Friday, he announced on social media.

Morris made an official visit to Lawrence, Kan. on April 19 to see what the Jayhawks have to offer. It might now cause Longhorns fans to cringe a bit seeing him in Jayhawk threads next year after only one season in Austin.

Morris’ entrance into the portal was announced on April 10, causing another domino to fall on coach Rodney Terry’s roster ahead of his first full season at the helm.

The Jayhawks clearly liked what they saw from Morris toward the end of this past season. Along with the highlight-reel alley-oop dunk he had in Texas’ blowout win over Kansas in the Big 12 Championship, Morris finished with eight points in that game. Overall, he saw limited action against Kansas in the three meetings with Texas, but made the most when it counted in the conference title game.

Morris averaged 4.6 points and 1.4 rebounds in 11.8 minutes per contest while appearing off the bench in all 38 games for the Longhorns this past season. Even on a deep group of veterans, he showed promising flashes as a freshman, which included a 25-point performance in a win over Louisiana on Dec. 21.

But Morris' career at Texas was clouded with controversy before it began. He was arrested by Frisco Police in early June 2022 before being charged with misdemeanor assault after a physical altercation with his ex-girlfriend, according to police records.

Both the university and former Texas coach Chris Beard never suspended Morris headed into the season, and the topic was not addressed by the team or coaching staff after Beard's own arrest and eventual firing quickly became the story of the season.

Morris' trial was originally set for March 29 in Denton County, but was postponed during Texas' March Madness run.
