Longhorns Transfer Target Caleb Love Commits to Arizona

The Texas Longhorns have found themselves deep in Caleb Love transfer portal rumors as of late.

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Longhorns have made some big moves in the transfer portal this offseason, but just missed out on another major addition.

Former North Carolina guard Caleb Love has committed to the Arizona Wildcats, he announced on social media Tuesday. Love decommitted from Michigan on May 17 and instantly became a primary target for coach Rodney Terry and the Longhorns.

Team sources told LonghornsCountry.com that there was strong mutual interest between Texas and Love. The Longhorns were seen as being in the running for Love with Gonzaga and Arizona, but it's the Wildcats who've won the sweepstakes to secure a former March Madness hero.

This past season, Love and the Tar Heels failed to make the NCAA Tournament, but Love averaged 16.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists. Despite UNC's disappointing season, it's understandable to see why Love was a target for programs focused on winning a championship. Averaging 18.8 points per game, Love embodied what it meant to be clutch in the biggest moments during the 2022 NCAA Tournament, as he led the No. 8 Tar Heels all the way to the National Championship, where they were one half away from winning it all.

Love heading to Austin seemed like possible outcome. Now, the program will have to look elsewhere for the fifth transfer add of the offseason.
